About Me
I’m Dee Doanes. The Man With the Green Suitcase is my first fiction novel. I’ve been writing since the age of five and I’m absolutely obsessed with writing. I have previously published short stories and poetry.
Even though my book is a paranormal, mystery with an element of romance, my taste in books expands well beyond my genres. With more than 2000 books at home my nerd side is fed very well. Nerds rule!
I love most types of books including: horror, paranormal, fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, science, history, philosophy, spirituality, business, etc. BTW, if I was stranded on an island and could only have one book, it would be the dictionary, my all time favorite book. I actually sleep with one next to my bed.
I love TV shows and movies such as: The X-Men, Inception, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Pan’s Labyrinth, Alfred Hitchcock, Tales from the Crypt, The Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, Tales from the Darkside.
Some of my favorite authors are: Stephen King (I gorged on his books growing up), Helen Steiner Rice, Edgar Allen Poe, Barbara Cartland, Mitch Albom, the Dalai Lama, Epictetus, Malcolm Gladwell, Toni Morrison, Jared Diamond, Arthur Golden, Zora Neal Hurston, Maria V. Synder, Dean Koontz. And my style of writing is not like any of these authors.
I have a background in copywriting, communications, and social media. I enjoy meeting people. Charity work is important to me, which includes doing a poetry workshop for the Atlanta Writers Club Youth Writers Camp. I’m the former co-chair of the Georgia Writers Writing in the Schools Program.
I’m a big time Trekkie! The perfect man would have the sexual prowess of Captain Kirk and the logic of Mr. Spock. Yes, I go to Dragoncon dressed as Seven of Nine. Maybe I will post the pictures. I’ve always thought I’m from an alternate universe.
My other interests are: holistic/alternative health, meditation, fitness training, gourmet cooking (I’m a big time foodie and bake one helluva red velvet cake), world travel, collecting art, and shoes, shoes, shoes. Did I mention that I love shoes
When I die, I want to be buried with my books, pen and paper, mountain bike, a bottle of good Cabernet Sauvignon, and my fabulous shoe collection.
I’m from Atlanta, where I currently live. I love spending time with my parents and my daughter. My mother encouraged me to read and to be creative while growing up.
